Top 10 Players in Dolphins History

When talking about historic NFL franchises, the Miami Dolphins immediately come to mind. This storied team began in the old American Football League in 1966 and joined the National Football League in 1970.

Since its inception, the Dolphins organization has provided fans with memorable moments including Super Bowl championships and a historic undefeated season in 1972. The Miami has also been the home of a myriad of exceptional players, true legends to be exact. Here is a list of the top ten Miami Dolphins of all time.

1 Dan Marino: Marino is arguably the best quarterback to play the game and certainly the best to play the position in Miami. Marino joined the team in 1983 with one of the best draft picks of all time and played until 1999. During that time he received Rookie of the Year honors, was the NFL passing leader numerous times and had nine Pro Bowl appearances.

2 Larry Csonka: This five-time Pro Bowler is easily one of the most dominant Full Backs to set foot on the field. Csonka played with Miami from 1968- 1974. During this time he was a part of two Super Bowl championship teams and was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl VIII. He returned for a season in 1979 and received the honor of being the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year.

3 Bob Griese: Joining the Dolphins a year after their inception many thought, quarterback Bob Griese, to be the cornerstone of the Dolphins franchise. During his tenure (1967-1980) Griese made three Super Bowl appearances, winning two, and was a six-time Pro Bowler.  Phins.com even has him as their second best of all-time.

4 Paul Warfield: Wide Receiver, Paul Warfield was a dominant force on the offense from 1970 through 1974. Warfield, the eight- time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl Champion still holds receiving records and is an elite Wide Receiver.

5 Jason Taylor: Defensive End, Jason Taylor is as well known for his stand-up character off the felid as he is for his dominating style of play on the field. Taylor played for the Dolphins from 1997- 2007 and returned for the 2010 season. During this time he was a six-time Pro Bowler, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the NFL Man of the Year.

6 Larry Little: Larry Little was a giant among men on the football field. Little, one of the greatest Guards to play the game, was the key to the Dolphins dominating running attack from 1968-1980. He logged five Pro Bowl appearances and two Super Bowl Championships during this time.

7 Nick Buoniconti: Middle Linebacker, Buoniconti played for Miami from 1969-1976. During this time he received honors as the Team MVP in 1969, two Super Bowl Championships and went to the Pro Bowl two times. Buoniconti is best known as the unofficial leader of the Dolphins “No Name Defense.”

8 Mercury Morris: Morris’ speed as a running back was the perfect complement to Larry Csonka’s power during their time together in Miami. Morris was a Dolphin from 1969-1975; earning three Pro Bowl trips and two Super Bowl championships.

9 Mark Duper: Duper played Wide Receiver for the Dolphins from 1982-1992. During this time he gained the record for Dolphins receiving yards with 8,869. He is second in career receptions and was a three-time Pro Bowler.

10 Mark Clayton: This outstanding Wide Receiver shared the field with Mark Duper from 1983-1992,and was Dan Marino’s favorite target. He was the two-time NFL leader in touchdowns by a receiver and a five-time Pro Bowler during his years as a Dolphin.
